The plaintext is randomly chosen from Gutenberg.org. The type and key are randomly chosen by my program. My analyzer placed the correct type in 7th place. My programs had trouble solving it, but I eventually solved it with my hillclimber using the crib. The crib in Caesar is LWFSIRJXFNS

  1. Some digits are left out of the ciphertext. The plaintext continues (caesar-shifted) YMJKTQQTBNSL

This cipher type was not on my regular list so I had to eliminate all the types on my list before I got to the correct type. I did need the crib.

  2. That’s correct. The missing numbers are an automatic feature of my enciphering program and I should probably fix that. There is no need to remove them for this cipher type.
