This is a random quote from gutenberg.org. The key is also from a random sentence in gutenberg and the final word is truncated. I was able to solve it using computer-assisted word searches by patterns.

  1. The plaintext continues (caesar shifted) YMJGTDHTQQJHYJI.

My word search program wasn’t too useful for this one because there were too many possibilities. But my hill-climber got a good partial solution and I found the text on the internet, although not on the Gutenberg site. I checked that the exact solution matched the ciphertext. There were many free spaces in the keyphrase itself. I found one matching key phrase that consisted of complete words, so it’s not the correct one.

    1. Correct. I was able to reconstruct all but the last word of the key correctly. The sentence is actually from one of your favorite sources of cons: Jules Verne.
